Varanasi: A 20-year-old woman in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency, Varanasi, was set on fire today, allegedly by three men, at the Lallapura area of Varanasi. Sustaining 70% burns, she is battling for life at a local government hospital.
In their complaint to the police, the woman's parents alleged that the men would pass lewd comments when she passed by. On an earlier occasion, when the parents had protested, the accused filed a false case against them, the complaint said.
The woman's mother told NDTV that this afternoon, when the girl stepped out of the house, they started abusing her and set her on fire.
The police have arrested one of the accused, but are waiting to record the girl's statement.
