New Delhi:
Several students were injured when a portion of the ceiling of a classroom in Delhi University's Daulat Ram College suddenly collapsed today.
Eyewitnesses have told NDTV that the incident occurred when 15 students of the political science department were attending a lecture around noon today. A part of the roof suddenly collapsed, injuring several students.
"There were several students inside the classroom and more could have got hurt. Few of us had a lucky escape. Injured students had to be taken to a hospital for treatment," said Diksha Verma, a student who was present when the roof collapsed.
Following the incident several students and teachers boycotted classes and joined in protests against college authorities.
"First it was only the political science department, but later the entire college agreed. Even the principal is on our side. We are waiting for an explanation from the governing body," Ms Verma added.
A police complaint has been lodged against college authorities after close to a hundred students joined the protests.
Last month, students and staff at the college protested against authorities for ignoring the deplorable condition of the college infrastructure.
