As Mumbai ushers in Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi, the police says two suspected terrorists have entered the city. The government has released photos of these men, allegedly members of terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Both the suspects are said to have crossed over from the Bangladesh border and have sneaked in with terror designs.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan yesterday stated that it was the Union Home Ministry who informed him about the security threat.
"Two people of foreign origin have entered Mumbai intending to cause disruption at crowded and religious places," said Joint Police Commissioner Himanshu Roy. Special police units have been set up to intercept them. Guesthouses and hotels have been asked to increase security.
43,000 policemen will guard the city as it enters the festival season. The most popular Ganesh pandals like the one at Lalbaug have bomb disposal squads on standby. Railway stations are also being carefully monitored and guarded.
The Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and Force 1, created specifically to combat terror, are on stand-by.
The suspected terrorists are named Kalimuddin Khan alias Rameshwar Pandit suspected to be from Pakistan and Hafiz Sharee who is suspected to be from Bangladesh.

In 2008, the LeT orchestrated India's worst terror attack - close to 170 people were killed as ten terrorists went on a rampage at city landmarks like the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, Leopold Café, and the Trident and Taj hotels.
