The case of 11-year-old Shanno, a schoolgirl who died after being allegedly beaten up by her teacher, has taken a new twist.
A post-mortem report has suggested that she could have died because of an existing medical condition, which got triggered in the sun when she was punished.
The report also focuses on respiratory failure or a delay in getting medical treatment as the reason. No external injuries, however, have been reported.
The police have registered a case of death because of negligence against the teacher, but it could have been converted to a case of culpable homicide only if the post-mortem had confirmed injury.
Manju, the teacher who hit Shanno and then made her stand in the sun for two hours, following which the girl went into a coma and then died, is the mother of a two-year-old baby girl. And her family is shocked over the charges put up against her.
"Manju is innocent. We are being blamed for no fault of ours," said Manju's sister-in-law Poonam.
But regardless of the charges that are finally framed against Manju, for Shanno's parents, there is little consolation right now.
