Shanno's 'killer' teacher nabbed; questioning begins

According to sources, the schoolteacher of the MCD school, who is allegedly charged of killing 11-year-old Shanno, is being questioned by police.

The teacher has been charged with death due to negligence and could face a maximum jail term of three years.

If medical report confirms injuries, the teacher can face charges under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code. The teacher could be charged with 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'

Earlier, there was outrage all over the nation following the death of Shanno. The protesters were demanding the arrest of the MCD schoolteacher, who was missing after the incident.

Shanno was made to stand in the sun for two hours on Friday after which the girl went into a coma and died. There was outrage all over the nation over the child's death.

People came out on the streets on Saturday protesting Shanno's death. About 50 protesters blocked the Narela Road in New Delhi and stopped the vehicles.

Police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.

The relatives of the girl have taken the child's body home after post-mortem. There is a big crowd outside the house at Bawana and extra security has been deployed in case there are more protests.

The incident has also attracted some strong reactions from various quarters. Speaking over the child's death, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj said that a change in mindset is imperative before there can be a change in law.
