Shatrughan Sinha meets Nitish Kumar, a day after choosing LK Advani over Narendra Modi

Shatrughan Sinha meets Nitish Kumar, a day after choosing LK Advani over Narendra Modi
Patna: Addressing the media today on the Chhapra mid-day meal tragedy, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a curious disclosure: that senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha met him earlier today to inquire about his fractured toe.

Interestingly, the 'non-political' meeting of the two Bihar leaders comes a day after Mr Sinha said that Narendra Modi cannot be the Prime Minister of India without the BJP veteran L K Advani's blessings.

Mr Sinha went on to say that senior leaders within the party were not being given their due respect or positions, thereby suggesting that the deep chasm between the top rung of the BJP leadership remains unbridged.

Mr Sinha was one of the notable absentees, along with Mr Advani, at the Goa conclave of the BJP last month, where Mr Modi was chosen to head BJP's national campaign.

Nitish however asked the journalists not to read much into the 'courtesy' visit, which, he claimed, had no political agenda. Nitish's party, the Janata Dal-United (JDU) had a bitter split with the BJP last month.

Nitish Kumar and his party chief Sharad Yadav had both cited the marginalization of Mr Advani by his party as one of the reasons for their ending the 17-year alliance. Both had said that the NDA no longer had the strength or vision of the Atal-Advani era.
