New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to seek extension of police custody of media baron Peter Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Sources in the agency said Mr Peter Mukerjea's remand is necessary because he has been "evasive" and "not cooperating" with the agency.

"He has been not cooperating in the probe and it appears that he was part of larger conspiracy. We will seek extension of Peter's custody," said a CBI official on condition of anonymity.

Mr Mukerjea, whose police custody will end on November 26, was brought to Delhi on Tuesday and is being questioned by the agency on financial deals that are viewed to be a possible motive behind the murder.

The agency has been scrutinising bank accounts held jointly by Mr Mukerjea and his wife Indrani Mukerjea, arrested for killing her own daughter Ms Sheena Bora.

The source of money in several accounts, including ones in HDFC, Barclays and Kotak Mahindra, is also being probed.

The agency has identified bank accounts of Ms Indrani and Mr Peter and found that Ms Indrani has over a dozen fixed deposits.

Interestingly, in one account, Ms Mukerjea reportedly had made a fixed deposit of Rs 80 lakh and she opened it after the murder of Ms Sheena Bora.

The agency has earlier revealed that the motive behind the murder was monetary gains.

Mr Peter's son Rahul is also in the national capital and has been called twice to join the investigation.

According to CBI, Mr Rahul Mukerjea and Ms Sheena Bora were in a relationship, which both Mr Peter and Ms Indrani disapproved of.

The CBI had arrested Ms Indrani Mukerjea and her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai for the murder of Ms Sheena Bora.

Ms Indrani, Mr Khanna, and driver Rai reportedly killed Ms Sheena Bora and disposed off her body. Ms Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled in a car on April 24, 2012, and her body was burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad, about 84 km from Mumbai, the next day.
