FILE: Former Star India Chief Peter Mukerjea's son Rahul with Sheena Bora who was murdered in 2012.
Mumbai:
After Sheena Bora was killed, her face was smashed and her body was stuffed in a suitcase and burnt in the forests in Raigad, 84 km from Mumbai, the police say.
Details of how Sheena Bora was allegedly killed on April 24, 2012, by a trio comprising her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her step-father Sanjeev Khanna and a driver are emerging from long hours of interrogation by the Mumbai police.
The day before the murder, the three allegedly did a recce of the place where they would dump Sheena's body, which the police say indicates a planned murder.
Indrani's driver Shyam Rai, whose confession led to the arrest of Indrani, a prominent media executive married to TV honcho Peter Mukerjea, has disclosed how the alleged killers tried to cover up the crime. Police sources say the driver may turn approver, which means he will give evidence against the other two accused.
The driver has allegedly told the police that Sanjeev Khanna strangled Sheena, who had been sedated after she was allegedly forced into the car by her mother.
After smashing Sheena's face and burning the body in a suitcase to prevent identification, the alleged killers dumped it down a slope.
The decomposing remains were found a month later by villagers. At the time, the police dismissed it as an unclaimed body.
Sheena Bora was Indrani's daughter from an earlier marriage and was dating Peter Mukerjea's son Rahul, her step-brother, when she was killed.
For a year after that, Indrani allegedly kept up a charade that Sheena was alive and in the US, using her phone to send texts and also forging documents.
Indrani's arrest on Tuesday also revealed that Sheena was actually her daughter; she had introduced her to the world as her sister.
