'Sheila Dikshit Is Delhi Reject': UP Politician Swami Prasad Maurya Shoots Off Mouth

Congress leader Sheila Dikshit was descrived as rejected maal (goods) by Swami Prasad Maurya.

Lucknow: A top politician in Uttar Pradesh, Swami Prasad Maurya, has described Congress leader Sheila Dikshit as a "rejected maal (goods) from Delhi", setting up another controversy ahead of next year's election in the state.

Mr Maurya, a four-time lawmaker who recently exited Mayawati's BSP or Bahujan Samaj Party, was speaking to reporters dismissively of the prospects of the Congress and Ms Dikshit, the party's chief ministerial candidate, in polls to be held in a few months.

"If the Congress is not going to look towards the youth but get a rejected maal from Delhi and put her in UP, it proves that the Congress doesn't have a leader here. That leader has already lost Delhi, to bring her here reflects just how grim it is for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh," said the 62-year-old politician from a powerful backward caste.

78-year-old Ms Dikshit, a three-time chief minister of Delhi, was seen to be a reluctant candidate when she was formally assigned to UP last month.

Mr Maurya's sexist comments have stirred up more anger after his former chief Mayawati was targeted by another politician, Dayashankar Singh, in most offensive language.

Mr Singh, one of the nine vice presidents of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, was expelled by the party and has been arrested.

Mr Maurya quit the BSP after accusing Mayawati of taking money from those who want to contest polls. He was a prominent face in a party in which not too many are ready to speak on camera for fear of Mayawati.
