Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar said party chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh Sheila Diskhit will work for the development and "beautification" of the state just like she did in Delhi.
"Delhi was established by the Mughals, it was developed by the British and later beautified by Sheila Dikshit. If she comes of power in Uttar Pradesh, she will develop the state like Delhi," Mr Babbar said in Kanpur on Monday night.
He held BJP, BSP and Samajwadi Party responsible for the backwardness of Uttar Pradesh in the last 27 years.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress chief urged the youth to vote for Congress in 2017 Assembly elections to see the kind of development work by Congress, which they could not witness 27 years ago.
"Congress does not believe in caste-based politics and only works for the welfare of common man," he said.
The party workers reached Kanpur on Monday from Delhi as part of Congress' poll campaign, '27 saal, UP behaal'.
Hinting at the Samajwadi Party government, Mr Babbar alleged that the party supremo had failed to stop "loot" in the state.
He also attacked the BJP government at the centre and said the party had done nothing for the development of the state which helped it get maximum number of votes during the Lok Sabha elections.
Pointing at senior BJP leader and lawmaker from Kanpur Murli Manohar Joshi, Mr Babbar said that since he seldom visits the city, he would hardly know about the development in his constituency.
He said Congress has the vision for development and its leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Sheila Dikshit know the state well.
