New Delhi: A Shiv Sena leader's car allegedly ran over three girls on their way to school in Maharashtra's Baramati this morning. Two girls died instantly in the accident that took place near the Baramati-Morgaon road. Another girl was injured. A large crowd protested at the site and demanded the arrest of the car's owner Pappu Mane, a Sena leader in Baramati.
Mr Mane has been detained for questioning. It is not clear whether he was driving his SUV or was even in it when it hit the girls around 8 am. The police say initial questioning indicates that the politician's friend had borrowed his car.
A group of angry local people set the SUV on fire and blocked the road to press for action against the Sena leader.
