New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said today that his party will play the role of principal Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly beginning December 8, but that won't affect the party's ties with the BJP at Centre.

"I have no knowledge of any talks between my party and BJP. As of now, we are an Opposition party and will take on the government in the coming Winter Session (of Maharashtra Assembly)," Mr Raut said.

"This won't affect our relationship with the BJP at the Centre. The Shiv Sena is ready to support government's agenda in Winter Session of Parliament," Mr Raut added.

There are several issues like law and order, farmers' suicide, power crisis and drought-like condition in many parts of Maharashtra and Sena leaders are highlighting them effectively, he said.

On Saturday, BJP leader and state PWD minister Chandrakant Patil had said in Kolhapur that Shiv Sena "will be accommodated" in the Cabinet expansion before the Winter Session of the state assembly begins.

Meanwhile, highly placed sources in Shiv Sena said the decision about their party joining the government would be taken by Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
