New Delhi: Columnist Shobhaa De's Olympic tweet that upset so many people some days ago isn't going to be forgotten any time soon. Twitter is reserving some of its breath for rejoinders to her posts about badminton star PV Sindhu, who prevailed over Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the Olympic women's singles semi-final in Rio on Thursday.
Like much of Twitter, Ms De was watching and tweeting - and it appears now that no matter what she tweets, someone's going to be offended.
When Sindhu won her semi-final match, she was assured of a silver medal, potentially a gold. Shobhaa De's three tweets after Sindhu's semi-final win was greeted with scorn by other users, especially those who read her first two tweets as concluding that she could only bring home an Olympic silver.
Here are her tweets, with one of the accompanying responses - and these are the mildest we could find. Many users told Ms De to 'shut up,' others accused her of doing women a 'disservice.' Her opponents remained unpacified by this tweet on Friday morning: The trolling is the consequence of this tweet from Shobhaa De on August 8: It brought forth a torrent of criticism, spread over several days, from Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, actor Amitabh Bachchan and cricketer Virender Sehwag.
In a bravely-fought final, PVS Sindhu lost to Spain's Carolina Marin, winning a silver medal.
