Should Americans travel to Andhra Pradesh?
Hyderabad: The US Consulate in Hyderabad on Wednesday said a decision on continuing the current travel advisory to Americans on travelling to Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the unrest over Telangana would be taken by the month-end.

"The current advisory is in force till the end of this month. A couple of days before the end of the advisory... (a decision will be taken). We are assessing the situation all the time, because we have an obligation to tell American citizens what's going on as far as their safety," Juliet Wurr, Public Affairs Officer at the Consulate, said.

The travel advisory mainly aims at giving information to Americans about any region where disturbances were occurring, she said.

"Let's remember what a travel advisory is. Our first responsibility is for the safety of Americans. We have an obligation to let them know, in any country, if there are disturbances, they should be aware of. That's basic.

"There has been violence and disturbances in different places. So we told them that. That travel advisory only lasts for two weeks. We see the situation. If the situation changes, we change the travel advisory," Wurr said.

The US had issued an advisory last week to Americans to defer all non-essential travel to Telangana region and certain parts of Hyderabad in the wake of the unrest over Telangana issue.
