New Delhi:
It was Sushma Swaraj who revealed about three weeks ago on Twitter that she had been hospitalised because of kidney failure. The External Affairs Minister, who has used Twitter to spring assistance to Indians all over the world, was, in turn, hastily offered help, including kidneys, by strangers.
Today, Ms Swaraj's husband, Swaraj Kaushal, former Mizoram Governor, urged for boundaries to be respected as she preps at Delhi's AIIMS hospital for a transplant which is reportedly scheduled for this weekend.
Newspaper reports have speculated that the minister's donor is alive and unrelated to her.
"The media reports about Sushma's surgery are so detailed. I think we will have to prepare for a live telecast. Alas ! A lady in public life is also a citizen of India and entitled to some privacy" the Governor said in a pair of tweets.
Ms Swaraj, who is 64, has been treated regularly for diabetes and has been on dialysis to flush out her kidneys for weeks. India has tight laws that govern organ donation. Out of 2 lakh patients, only 10,000 find a donor every year.
A committee at AIIMS cleared Ms Swaraj's eligibility to receive a kidney.
In August, she tweeted a photo that showed her holding hands with her husband after they ran into each other at parliament.
