Sibal wants new universities, foreign teachers

New Delhi: After focusing on school reforms, Education Minister Kapil Sibal has now turned his attention to universities.

Sixteen new central universities are to be set up in states like Bihar, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

Sibal's plan for the new universities asks them to formulate a common entrance test as well as hire foreign teachers along with Indian professionals.

The Education Minister says these new universities should also generate local employment and have region specific courses.

The government is still identifying sites for the new central universities.
