At least six people, including two children, were killed and two others injured after a school bus rammed an SUV in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad today.
Police said the bus was coming from the wrong direction when it collided head-on with the SUV on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway early this morning.
All six people killed in the accident were occupants of the car - which was headed to Gurgaon.
The driver of the bus has been arrested. A traffic cop, who was deployed at the site at the time of the accident, said the bus drove for about nine km on the wrong lane of the expressway before hitting the SUV. "The driver is responsible for the accident," he said.
"Six of the eight people died and two are critically injured - they are admitted to the hospital. The driver has been arrested, he is being questioned and stringent sections are being invoked in the FIR," said Dehat Shubham Patel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ghaziabad.
"The impact of the collision was so strong that the dead bodies were taken out after cutting the doors of the car," officials said.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, they said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed over his anguish over the accident and asked officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
