Sizzling temperatures coupled with hot winds made life miserable for people in many parts of the country as two people succumbed to the extreme weather in western Uttar Pradesh.
The capital Delhi recorded a maximum of 44.4 degrees celsius, four notches above normal and a minimum of 34.3 degrees, which is the highest this season.
Two persons died due to the intense heat wave conditions prevailing in Western Uttar Pradesh.
Yakub (35), a rickshaw puller, fainted yesterday due to extreme heat following which he was rushed to a nearby hospital, police said. However, he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
In another incident, Chandrakanta, a resident of Saket in Delhi, who was travelling to Dehradun along with her family, was found dead in the Muzaffarnagar railway station, police said.
Police said that she must have died due to sunstroke.
Several parts of Madhya Pradesh today continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions with Naugaon in Chattarpur district and Morena recording a maximum temperature of 47.5 degrees Celsius.
Other places which recorded high temperatures yesterday were Gwalior (47 degrees), Shivpuri (46.8 degrees) and Khajuraho (46.7 degrees).
Hot winds swept across northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and Bundelkhand region the whole day, forcing people to stay indoors.
Met officials said the heat conditions would continue for some more days and said that the minimum temperatures in many places were above 30 degrees.
The maximum temperature in Bhopal was 43.6 degrees and the minimum was 30.5 degrees, both five degrees above normal.
Churu continued to remain the hottest place in the desert state of Rajasthan with recording a maximum temperature of 47 degree celsius.
Sri Ganganagar, Kota, Bikaner and Jaipur recorded day temperatures of 46.6, 45.8, 44.5 and 43.5 degrees respectively while other places recorded day temperature between 40.1 degree Celsius to 41.9 degrees, according to Met department in New Delhi.
