New Delhi:
Agreements on a liberalised visa regime and cultural exchanges are expected to be signed during Foreign Minister SM Krishna's three-day visit to Pakistan which began today. Mr Krishna, who has reached Pakistan, will hold talks with his counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad tomorrow. He is expected to meet other Pakistan leaders also.
"We don't expect too much from my visit to Pakistan. It is only an intention of the Government of India and the people of India to have normal relations with our neighbour," Mr Krishna said yesterday.
The Foreign Secretaries of the two countries, meanwhile, will meet today to set the agenda. Indian officials say that terrorism will form the core of New Delhi's discussions, particularly the slow pace of the 26/11 trial.
Other issues likely to figure in the talks are confidence building measures (CBMs), release of prisoners as well as trade and border issues.
The two Foreign Ministers will also review the resumed dialogue between the two countries, which has been termed as "successful".
Mr Krishna, who will also chair the Joint Commission Meeting with Ms Khar, will call on Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
This is Mr Krishna's second visit to Pakistan in over two years. He had last visited Pakistan in 2010 when he held talks with then Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
