Sohrabuddin case: Amit Shah's CBI remand over

Gandhinagar: With his two-day CBI custody getting over on Sunday, former Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah he has been sent back to judicial custody.

Shah was presented before the CBI judge A Y Dave after his remand period got over and was sent to judicial custody soon after. (Read: Gujarat High Court gives 2-day custody of Amit Shah to CBI)

The CBI had grilled the former minister in its custody for two days in its headquarters in Gandhinagar.

Though Shah's counsel had claimed that he had cooperated, the CBI sources said that Shah had evaded most of the questioning including the ones on the crucial transfer of senior officials handling the probe and the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh's wife Kausar Bi. The former Gujarat minister was asked almost 300 questions ranging from transfer to the conspiracy leading to the murder of Kausar. Sources said that Shah had feigned ignorance about these questions. (Read: 'Rs 10 crore paid to ministers, cops to kill Sohrabuddin')

Shah will not go back to Sabarmati jail even as the CBI is expected to widen its scope of investigations and probe the involvement of Rajasthan's marble lobby from now on.
