New Delhi:
The noose seems to be tightening around Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, who is a trusted lieutenant of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Sources in the CBI say that the investigating agency probing the Sohrabuddin encounter case is closing in on the minister after coming across evidence that suggests that Shah was in constant touch with the senior policemen involved in the case.
The Supreme Court had asked the CBI to investigate the matter after the state CID failed to make much headway in the case. The CBI has to file a status report the apex court by July 31.
Three IPS officers from Gujarat and one from Rajasthan police are already in jail for their role in the case.
The Congress has, meanwhile, said the Supreme Court has handed over the Sohrabuddin case to the CBI and now it is for the investigating agency to investigate.
"This is an important issue but matter is sub-judice. The Supreme Court is investigating the matter through the CBI. The evidence is emerging of no less the Home Minister's phone call with all these top police officials who have been arrested. We will make no judgmental comments since this is a SC ordered probe," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
