5 Soldiers Injured In Encounter With Terrorists In Jammu And Kashmir's Kupwara

5 soldiers were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Kashmir's Kupwara last month.

Srinagar: Five army personnel have been injured in a major gun battle with infiltrators along the line of control in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. The encounter began after the army intercepted a heavily-armed group of terrorists near the Line of Control.

There is no clarity yet about the number of terrorists holed up or whether any of them have been killed during the gun fight.

Army sources say the encounter began this afternoon and five soldiers were injured after they came under heavy firing.

"The injured are being shifted to hospital," said an Army officer.

Sources say the terrorists seem to be well-trained and heavily armed and are taking advantage of the treacherous forest area. The Army has sent reinforcements to track them down.

This year infiltration has dramatically gone up and over 50 terrorists have crossed the border in the last five months. Last year, there was zero infiltration in the first four months. There is also been a spurt in the terrorist attacks in the valley. Five police and border security force personal were killed and several others were injured during three terrorist attacks in the last two weeks.
