One army soldier was killed in an ongoing encounter along the Line of Control in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. A terrorist was also killed in the gun battle.
The encounter, the Army sources said, started on Tuesday afternoon in which five soldiers were injured after they intercepted a heavy armed group of terrorists near the Line of Control. They were then shifted to a nearby hospital where one soldier was declared dead on arrival. Condition of two more soldiers is still serious.
Sources said that the terrorists seem to be well-trained and heavily armed and are taking advantage of the treacherous forest area. However, there is no clarity about the number of terrorists. Army has sent reinforcements to track them down.
In last two weeks, five police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed and several others were injured during three terrorist attacks.
Infiltration has dramatically gone up compared to the previous year. There have been infiltrations by over 50 terrorists in the last five months. Last year, there was zero infiltration in the first four months.
