Soldier Killed In Ceasefire Violation By Pakistan In Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri Sector

Pakistan has increased number of ceasefire violations since India's surgical strikes across LoC.

Jammu: An army jawan was killed in unprovoked firing by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri Sector on Sunday.

A senior army official said it was the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan in a day after their troops had used small arms to target Indian forward areas in Naushera sector.

Army said the Indian troops retaliated appropriately to the Pakistan's indiscriminate firing along the Line of Control or LoC.

Sepoy Sudhees Kumar, 24, from Sambhal District of Uttar Pradesh was killed in the firing.

The ceasefire violations by Pakistan took place on a day when India hosted leaders of BRICS nations including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping for a summit in Goa.

Pakistan has increased the number of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control or LoC ever since India's surgical strikes on launch pads or staging areas for terrorists in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Major ceasefire violations took place on 3, 4 and 5 October along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region.

On October 5, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire thrice and resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling to target several Indian posts and civilian areas in three sectors in Poonch and Rajouri districts, provoking retaliation by the Indian Army.

The army last week said that its "guard is up" and it will reply to any eventuality.

Last year, 16 civilians were killed and 71 others injured in 405 incidents of cross-border firing by Pakistan.
