Dehradun:
People of Dehradun bid farewell to 41-year-old Naik Anoop Thapa who died fighting terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara region on Saturday night.
While the mission was a success, the soldier laid down his life in the bargain.
His body was brought back to his hometown wrapped in the tri-colour.
Anoop belonged to the 3 Gorkha Rifles and was part of the Special Operation Group.
He was supposed to come home on leave on August 3 and his next posting was to be in the holy town of Varanasi where he had promised to take his family along too for a visit.
He is survived by his father, a wife and two young sons. A pall of gloom settled over his home where people poured in to pay their condolences to the grieving family.
His body was cremated with full military honours at the Chandrabani cremation ground as hundreds of people including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat paid respects to the soldier.
