Barabanki (UP): Police here have arrested the son of former Rajya Sabha member Banwari Lal Kanchal on the charges of defrauding a Lucknow-based property dealer of over Rs 2 crore and threatening to kill him, officials said on Saturday.
According to the police, Amit Kanchal and his six associates have been booked for fraud, tampering with documents, criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to disturb peace. Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwali Nagar Police station Ajay Kumar Tripathi said Banwari Lal Kanchal's son Amit Kanchal, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Lucknow, was arrested on Friday from near his house.
Amit Kanchal and his associates allegedly took Rs 2.20 crore from complainant Rituraj Singh by promising to get him a plot of land, the police official said.
Mr Singh, in his complaint to the police also claimed that on January 14 when he demanded the money back, Amit Kanchal threatened to kill him, the SHO said.
