Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi due to bronchitis. In a statement, the hospital said that the 76-year-old is stable.
Mrs Gandhi was admitted to the hospital yesterday, a hospital spokesperson said.
DS Rana, Chairman, Trust Society, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said Mrs Gandhi has been admitted to the hospital under the supervision of Arup Basu, senior consultant, Department of Chest Medicine, and his team, "on account of fever".
The hospital said that Mrs Gandhi is under observation and is undergoing investigations.
The bulletin said, "Sonia Gandhi is under observation and undergoing investigations. Her condition is stable."
This is the second time she has been admitted to a hospital this year. In January, Sonia Gandhi had been admitted to a Delhi Hospital for treatment of a viral respiratory infection.
She recently attended Congress's 85th plenary session in Raipur. At the event, Mrs Gandhi alluded to her retirement from politics and said she was happy that her "innings could conclude with the Bharat Jodo Yatra."
On the first day of the session, the Congress Steering Committee decided not to hold elections to the party's top council, the Working Committee, and authorised the new party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to nominate its members.
After back-to-back election defeats, years of internal wrangling for an overhaul and an exodus of leaders, Sonia Gandhi passed on the reins of the 137-year-old outfit to Mr Kharge, a loyalist, in October. Considered the first family of the party, the Gandhis maintain a firm hold on it.
