Mysore:
After a headline-making economy-class flight from Mumbai to Bangalore, Sonia Gandhi took a helicopter to Mysore. Her mission: to inaugurate the newer and bigger Infosys training centre there.
Able to accommodate 14,000 people at a go, this is the largest corporate education centre in the world. And it has a new fan.
" What a marvelous setting for a university. If I may share a secret, this visit gives me the opportunity to bunk my school - politics- for a few hours. Wish I could bunk a few days more," confessed Gandhi to a delighted audience.
The company co-founded by N R Narayan Murthy has come a long way with more than 100, 000 employees and foreign exchange earnings of 10 000 crores a year - and the expanded training Centre reflects this scale of operation.
Founder Narayana Murthy explains, " This is the largest classical monolithic building in post-independent India....the largest corporate training facility in the world. "
The Infosys training centre was inaugurated four years ago by the Prime Minister. Murthy says the newer version symbolizes his company's constant ambition to progress.
