Sonia Gandhi 'bunks' politics for Infy

Mysore: After two economy class flights, and a helicopter hop from Bangalore to Mysore, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated the new Infosys campus in Mysore. And Gandhi, one of the most powerful women in the world, was glad for this break from her political routine.

The Congress president inaugurated the expanded Global Education Centre at the Infosys campus in Mysore. The facilities of the enormous centre seemed to tempt Sonia Gandhi to make a longer stay.

Sonia Gandhi, was certainly impressed enough to want to stay a bit longer at largest corporate education centre in the world.

"I am struck by this environment you have created. What a marvelous setting for a university. If I may share a secret - this visit gives me the opportunity to bunk my school - politics for a few hours. Wish I could bunk a few days more," said Sonia.

The enormous building - more than a million square feet - has smart classrooms, multi-cuisine food courts, and can accommodate 9,500 trainees at a time. And Infosys says such impressive buildings do serve a purpose.

"Visible signs of progress is important, the largest classical monolithic building in post independent India. The largest corporate training facility in the world," said Narayan Murthy.

The Mysore campus is the largest in Infosys - and the IT giant's training headquarters. The scale of the Global Education Centre is enormous - reflecting the growth of the company that helped put Indian IT firmly on the world map.
