Sonia Gandhi Chairs Meet On Indira Gandhi Centenary Celebrations

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today chaired the meeting of the Indira Gandhi centenary celebrations committee for chalking out a programme to mark the birth centenary of the former Prime Minister.

The meeting, attended by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, convenor of Indira Gandhi Centenary Celebrations Implementation Committee Sheila Dikshit, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and other senior leaders, sought feedback of members on how best to project Indira Gandhi's personality, who donned several roles.

Sources said suggestions were given at the two-hour long meeting and the Implementation Committee under Ms Dikshit was asked to collate them and come up with a workable celebration plan.

Sonia had on June 23 formed two committees to plan events around the centenary of the ex Prime Minister.

The first panel, a 21 member Indira Gandhi Birth Centenary Celebrations Committee is headed by Sonia and comprises former PM Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, AK Antony, Karan Singh, Madhavsinh Solanki, Shivraj Patil, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Sheila Dikshit, P Chidambaram, Anand Sharma and Kumari Selja among others.

The second committee of the Indira Gandhi Birth Centenary Celebrations Implementation Committee has Dikshit as Convenor, Anand Sharma and Manishankar Aiyar as co-convenors and comprises Motilal Vora, Janardan Dwivedi, Ajay Makan and Asha Kumari, Milind Deora and Priya Dutt as members.
