NewDelhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi filed her Lok Sabha nomination on Monday and as per normal practice she'll be contesting from the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh. She was accompanied by her son and MP from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi.
The constituency has been a Nehru-Gandhi family bastion since the 1960s. Indira Gandhi won it for the first time in 1967, taking over after the death of her husband Feroz, who was also an MP from here.
Sonia Gandhi stood from Rae Bareilly in 2004 and won it by a huge margin. The constituency votes in the third phase on April 30.
Meanwhile, the Congress president campaigned extensively for her party candidates in eastern Uttar Pradesh, which goes to Lok Sabha polls in the first phase, addressing rallies in Basgaon, Salempur and Varanasi.
