Sonia Gandhi had to cut short her roadshow in Varanasi after she was taken ill.
New Delhi:
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who was recently discharged from Sir Ganga Ram hospital after being treated for dehydration, fever and a shoulder injury, has been advised complete bed rest for 6 weeks.
She will also have to undergo a small procedure for her arm at the hospital.
Mrs Gandhi had visited the hospital on Thursday -- two days after she was discharged -- for a "routine" medical check-up. The 69-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital on August 3 after being taken ill during a roadshow in Varanasi.
"She came for removal of her stitches from the surgery. It was a routine check-up as had been advised when she was discharged last week," a hospital source said.
During her discharge on August 14, doctors had said she had recovered from her illness and the injury and was stable.
"Mrs Gandhi is likely to visit the hospital for further evaluation of her condition in the coming week," D S Rana, Chairman of Board of Management of the hospital, had said.
The Congress chief had to cut short her roadshow in Varanasi after she had fractured her left shoulder and was taken ill. She was rushed to Delhi's Army Research and Referral Hospital, from where she was taken to the Ganga Ram Hospital.
