Kolkata:
Sonia Gandhi has a stern message for partymen: Hankering after posts brings on arrogance. Work for the people to win respect.
Speaking at a book launch in Kolkata, the Congress president's words were for power-seeking Congressmen. It only brought on arrogance, she said, and arrogance could not win the people's trust.
She also made an indirect reference to her political canonization after she refused to be Prime Minister in 2004. Sonia, who released the book "Rajniti ke sant" in memory of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shyama Charan Shukla, said remaining a saint in today's politics was a most difficult task.
She highlighted the need for continued existence of "good people" in politics. "A number of people become proud soon after getting any place in politics. But only those in politics get people's trust and love who keep on working politely," she said.
