Mumbai:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue banknotes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 20 denomination incorporating rupee symbol and bearing the signature of governor Raghuram Rajan.
"The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 1,000 Banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 issued earlier," the RBI said.
Banknotes of Rs 20 denomination incorporating rupee symbol will also be similar in all respects to the Rs 20 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005.
The year of printing - 2014 - will be on the reverse of the new banknotes.
The RBI said the notes issued in the past will continue to be legal tender.
