South Indian food, cell with attached toilet for Kanimozhi in Tihar
New Delhi: Kanimozhi, DMK MP and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi's daughter, is the latest high-profile entrant to Tihar Jail.

On her first night in Tihar jail, the DMK MP ate the food that she had got from her home and slept around 11.30 am. She got up at 5.30 am on Saturday morning and after having the breakfast served inside the prison that included two slices of bread and aloo sabzi, she left for the Court.

"She is in jail number 6, which is women's cell, and ward number 8. She is kept in a separate cell," RN Sharma, deputy inspector general for prisons, told IANS. "She has been given a separate cell with attached toilet. The cell has television, fans and light. She can have south Indian food," he added.

Kanimozhi's new neighbours are Madhuri Gupta, Sonu Punjaban and Sharda Jain. Former Indian Diplomat, Madhuri Gupta had hit the headlines last year when she was charged with spying for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"There will be no VIP treatment for Kanimozhi and like the other high-profile entrants, she will also follow the jail's schedule. As per norms she will be allowed to meet relatives twice a week," Sharma said.

The court allowed Kanimozhi, 43, to carry her medicines, books and reading glasses to the jail. It even allowed her home food, but declined her plea to be allowed to continue wearing her nose-pin while in jail.
