The south-west monsoon hit south Gujarat on Saturday bringing relief from heat wave conditions, even as the weatherman predicted heavy rains in the region in the next 24 hours.
"The south-west monsoon further advanced over the south Gujarat region today. Although it would cover the entire state gradually, we cannot give an exact timeline," Jayanta Sarkar, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad, told PTI.
The centre has issued warning that heavy rainfall would lash south Gujarat region in the next 24 hours.
"Heavy rains would occur at isolated places over south Gujarat region and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli," it said.
It has also predicted moderate rainfall and thundershowers in other parts of the state over the next five days.
"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at a few places in the districts of Saurashtra and at isolated places in the districts of north Gujarat region and in Kutch," it added.
Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Junagadh districts received light rainfall yesterday, while moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Amreli, Jamnagar districts of Saurashtra region in the last two days due to pre-monsoon climatic conditions.
