Air India is operating a special flight from Chennai to Colombo on Wednesday, to ensure that the Indian cricket team reaches Colombo in time for its first match at the Compaq Cup tri-series.
The team was originally booked to travel by Jet Airways, but now Air India has stepped in to help.
Air India executive director Jitendra Bhargava said as the national career Air India had a greater responsibility.
"Wherever something happens in aviation, Air India does come to the fore. We realise that we as a national carrier have a greater responsibility than others. So when we heard of this proposed mass leave by Jet pilots we geared ourselves, and early morning when the cancellations happened we were ready to take passengers on. We were helping passengers," Bhargava said.
