Spies plan 'sting' ops to stop sex determination

New Delhi:

Doctors beware! Next time, a patient asking for determination of sex of the unborn child could be an undercover agent planning to expose medical malpractices.

Perhaps in a first of its kind initiative, the association of private detectives is seeking permission from states and Union territories to conduct sting operations to uncover illegal sex determination and female foeticide across the country.

Considering it as their social responsibility, the association has written to health departments of all the state governments and Union territories seeking permission to conduct "sting operations" to nab the doctors or medical practitioners involved in the ill-practice.

"We were recently approached by the Gujarat government and we conducted a number of sting operations there. We also caught quite a few doctors who were involved in revealing the sex of unborn child. We are contacted by some other states also to do such operations," claims Kunwar Vikram Singh, president, Association of Private Detectives of India.

Singh alleged that there is a nexus between middlemen and doctors who secretly conduct sex-test across the country and mint money.

"We are making a blue print of our operations. Soon, we will hold talk with senior administrative officials and offer our services," he said.
