Pune: A 25-year-old MBA committed suicide allegedly because her friend with whom she was in love with did not respond to her messages.

The woman was a topper in her management institute in Magarpatta last year. She had threatened to commit suicide and messaged him thrice. The incident came to light after her friends found her flat door locked from inside. She was not responding to their repeated calls. Her elder sister then opened the flat with a spare key and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

The Hadapsar police have found messages sent by the victim to her alleged lover pleading him to accept her and threatening to kill herself. "Her messages reveal that she warned her lover she would consume sleeping pills. But he probably ignored the messages. Had he told the police or her family members about the messages, the woman could have been saved. By choosing to ignore these messages he indirectly became responsible for her death," said PI Pandharinath Mandhare.

The Hadapsar police arrested Ajinkya Bahubali Mehta, a two-wheeler dealer from Akluj, on charges of abetment of suicide. "The deceased hailed from Valchandnagar and was in a relationship with Mehta for five years. We suspect she resorted to the extreme measures after Mehta expressed unwillingness towards continuation of the relationship. The woman was probably depressed ever since," said PIS Dwarka Dokhe. Mehta is a graduate in computer science and has a diploma in gemology.
