Spying on youngsters during Navratras

Jaipur: Like the rest of the country, Rajasthan is now in the grip of Navratras - the nine nights of dance and celebration. But as countless youngsters soak in the festive spirit till late in the night, many parents remain worried. And some in Jaipur are now so anxious that they're hiring detectives to ensure their children do not flirt during Garba or Dandiya.

Raj Kumar, a private detective says he's been hired by over a dozen parents who want his agency to keep a tab on their children.

"Parents are scared that their children may get involved in some awful racket. Their big worry is that their kids may get into some love affairs or get into some drug racket. By using us, they want to save their children from such rackets," said Raj Kumar, private detective, Patron Security Services, Jaipur.

And it's not just parents of girls who are using detectives, several parents of boys also want a watch on their sons. The detectives trail their "subjects" discreetly with hidden cameras, walkie-talkies and a team spread over the Dandiya grounds. But Gen X is in no mood to tone down their festive fun.

"I don't think there should be any spying, parents should trust us. In any case, I don't care who's watching me. I just want to dance and have all the fun I can," said Ruchi, a youngster.

"Worries of our parents may be valid but we can't kill our enjoyment for their anxiety. We will have as much fun as we can," said Kamlesh.

To avoid suspicion, the detectives even play Garba or Dandiya themselves. But with youngsters hardly thrilled by the 'spy games' of their parents, one hopes the use of desi ''James Bonds'' will not snap the bonds of love and trust that hold together all families.
