Congress and BJP had divergent views on the quitting of E Sreedharan as the DMRC chief on Sunday. While the ruling party said Sreedharan has done the right thing, the Opposition asking the Delhi government not to accept his resignation .
Delhi Congress chief J P Agarwal said Sreedharan has done the right thing by resigning from the post owning responsibility for the accident at an under-construction Metro site in South Delhi.
"He has done the right thing in taking the moral responsibility for the incident. Even Lal Bhadhur Shastri and Madhav Rao Scindia had resigned as Railway Ministers owning moral responsibility after certain accidents," he said.
Agarwal also said the private companies are using old machines and "that is why in the last couple of months many incidents at the metro sites have occurred."
"They need to be very careful. In the last couple of months, so many incidents have happened and we must ensure that maximum safety measures is taken at all metro sites in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief O P Kohli said the Delhi government should not accept Sreedharan's resignation as it would delay all the Metro projects in the national capital.
"We are not politicising the issue and it would be in Delhi's interest that E Sreedharan continues on his post," he said.
