There was no relief for the residents of Srinagar as the city recorded the season's lowest temperature for the fourth consecutive night and was much colder than the ski-resort of Gulmarg.
The fringes of most water bodies in the city and other parts of the Valley, including the famous Dal Lake, froze as the cold wave conditions continue in Kashmir division and Ladakh region with the weather remaining dry.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night's minus 3.7 degrees Celsius, an official of the MET department said.
He said it was the fourth time in a row that the city recorded the coldest night of this winter as the minimum continues to hover over two degrees below the normal for this part of the season.
Gulmarg registered an increase of over two degrees in the minimum temperature as the mercury settled at a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, as compared to minus 2.4 degrees Celsius the previous night.
The resort, and few other places in the higher reaches of the Valley, had received a light snowfall on Wednesday.
Pahalgam, a tourist resort in south Kashmir which also serves as a base camp during the annual Amarnath yatra, registered a low of minus 5.8 degrees Celsius against the previous night's minus 6.6 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said Qazigiund - the gateway town to Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius against minus 4.3 degrees Celsius the previous night.
The mercury settled at a low of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius in Kokernag in south Kashmir, as compared to the previous night's minus 3.6 degrees Celsius.
Leh, in the cold desert of Ladakh, was the coldest recorded place in the state, registering a minimum of minus 13.8 degrees Celsius, a slight improvement from the season's lowest minus 14.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.
The night temperature in the nearby Kargil town also increased slightly to register a low of minus 10.3 degrees Celsius as against the previous night's minus 10.8 degrees Celsius.
The MET Department here has forecast dry weather for the next 24 hours and said there would not be any large change in it for the next few days.
