Noida/Lucknow: It's a race against time for the authorities in Uttar Pradesh today with the Election Commission's deadline for covering all statues of Mayawati and elephant, her party BSP's symbol, ending today at 5 pm.
The commission had ordered all such statues to be covered up till the assembly polls in the state are over to ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
Many of these statues in the state were put under cover on Tuesday.
Workers at these parks used the not so subtle pink plastic sheets to cover the elephant statues. A canopy was constructed around Mayawati's statues to cover them with plastic to make sure that they can stand any weather condition over the next two months.
The cover-up attracted a lot of crowd besides the media crews through the day.
