Stop dynastic politics and I will stop saying 'Shehzada': Narendra Modi on Rahul Gandhi

Stop dynastic politics and I will stop saying 'Shehzada': Narendra Modi on Rahul Gandhi
The BJP mocked Rahul Gandhi's comments on the Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi assassinations
Patna: The BJP today denounced Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for stating that he does not rule out being assassinated, like his grand-mother and father were, by what he describes as "the politics of hatred."

"If the Congress's Yuvraj (young prince) is so scared, he should get more security. Don't cry in front of citizens," said BJP president Rajnath Singh at a huge rally in Patna today where the star performer was Narendra Modi, the BJP's choice for prime minister.

At the rally, Mr Modi spent a part of his lengthy speech to explaining why he has christened Mr Gandhi a "shehzada", another word for prince.

"Stop practising dynastic politics and I will stop using the word Shehzada," said Mr Modi, repeating the allegation that the Congress is a family-first party. Mr Gandhi's mother, Sonia, is its president; Mr Gandhi is No 2 and is protected by the elite Special Protection Guard or SPG.

Last week, at a rally in Rajasthan, Mr Gandhi blamed the BJP for divisive politics and said, "Hatred killed my grandmother, my father, maybe it'll kill me. I don't care."

A day later, the Prime Minister reacted to that statement.

"I and all sane persons should be worried about the politics of hate which is now sweeping the country... the government will take all possible precautions that this threat (to Rahul Gandhi's life) does not materialise," Dr Manmohan Singh told reporters on the way back from his tour of Russia and China.
