Stopped From Offering Water At Alaknath, Kanwariyas Indulge In Arson In Bareilly

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh: Some kanwariyas today created a ruckus and indulged in arson when 'Daak Kanwar' was stopped from offering water at the ancient Alaknath temple, police said in Bareilly.

Police stopped the kanwariyas and their associates from offering water due to "unavoidable reasons" after which they gheraoed the policemen, who had to leave the place, it said.

Agitated, the associates of the kanwariyas torched three motorcycles and damaged a jeep of Qila police station.

District Magistrate Sneh Lata, IG Vijay Singh Meena and other officers reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Expressing anguish over the incident, Local legislator Arun Kumar said the temple area is a sensitive place, but proper police arrangement was not made, which was "unfortunate".
