Seven military personnel were martyred and 20 others injured in the terror attack at Pathankot Air Force base.
Kolkata:
On a day when military operations were completed at the Pathankot Air Force Base which came under attack by terrorists from Pakistan, Trinamool lawmaker Derek O'Brien kicked off a storm on Twitter after he announced that Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali will perform in Kolkata next Tuesday.
"Pete Seeger performed at a peace concert at Park Circus Maidan #kolkata in the early 1960s. The music plays on... 2016 Jan 12 Ghulam Ali" Mr O'Brien tweeted around 4 pm.
An earlier tweet was less lyrical, more exact:
Asked if the government was hosting the Ghulam Ali show, Mr O'Brien said, "The programme is being held by the state government's minority financial development corporation."
In October, Ghulam Ali's performances at Mumbai and Pune had to be cancelled after protests by the Shiv Sena.
Now, Derek O'Brien's tweets have triggered angry protests.
Seven military personnel were martyred and 20 others injured in the terror attack at the base. Six terrorists were killed by security forces.
The attack came about a week after a surprise visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif last month. India has indicated that it may delay talks in Islamabad between the foreign secretaries of the two countries that were to be held on January 15.
Mr Sharif called up PM Modi on Tuesday and assured him of his support in the investigation into the assault.
