Students Federation of India called off its 154 day old agitation in Himachal Pradesh University campus.

Shimla: Students Federation of India (SFI) on Tuesday called off its 154 day old agitation in Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) campus following a written agreement reached with the University authorities.

The decision to call off the stir was taken at the meeting attended by Vice chancellor A D N Bajpai, Dean of Students Welfare Prof Sanjeev Mahajan and chief security officer Subhash Chauhan and SFI leaders including the state president Vivek Rana, Campus president Naval Thakur and Secretary Vipin Sharma.

Vice Chancellor said the SFI agreed to call of the agitation immediately and also assured that it would abide by the directions of High Court in "letter and spirit".

It was agreed that the cases of seven out eight student leaders, barring Hoshiyar Singh, who were rusticated two years ago on charges of "indulgence in violence" for revoking the rustication orders would be considered positively on filing self-signed application.

University authorities agreed that the suggestions given by the SFI leaders regarding implementation of RUSA and other issues would be considered positively and High Court decision regarding the High Powered committee would be implemented soon.

However, the SFI leaders claimed that it was major victory for them that the University was forced to hold talks and agreed to their demands.
