Patna: Atleast 18 trains from North Bengal and the north-east region are held up on the Bengal-Bihar border since Wednesday morning, after students affiliated to the All Islamic Students Union blocked railway tracks in Bihar's Kishanganj district, to put pressure on the Bihar government to hand over about 250 acres of land for setting up a proposed study centre of the Aligarh Muslim University in the district.
The blockade was supposed to be daylong, but now the union says it will be indefinite.
The agitation has the support of local politicians too. Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has spoken to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and asked him to help end the agitation.
