Lucknow:
The state Congress on Monday alleged that Sulabh International organisation constructed a "poor quality" toilet on the banks of Ganga during Kumbh Mela at the cost of Rs 9.5 lakh.
The issue came up during the question hour in Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha when Congress member Anugrah Narain Singh said, "Sulabh international constructed a poor quality, one and a half room toilet on the banks of Ganga during Kumbh and a payment of Rs 9.5 lakh was made for that".
"The Chief Secretary during his visit also found the anomaly. I am raising the issue as a number of toilets are to be made in future too," he said.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mohd Azam Khan said that the matter has come to his knowledge, adding, in some cases payments were made without construction of toilets in 2011-12.
He said that he would look into the matter and ensure action against the guilty.
Mr Khan also assured that the state government could consider removal of toilets constructed on bank of rivers to avoid pollution.
