Chennai:
Hansraj Saxena, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sun Pictures which is owned by Kalanidhi Maran, media magnate and grand-nephew of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, has been released on bail.
Saxena was arrested based on a complaint by a Salem-based distributor and was behind bars for two months on charges of cheating and criminal intimidation.
T S Selvaraj, the complainant, had claimed that he bought the distribution rights for Salem to a Tamil film produced by Sun Pictures for close to a crore. But instead of using him, Sun allegedly released the film directly in theatres. Mr Selvaraj had claimed that the COO of Sun threatened him when the distributor asked for his money to be reimbursed.
Selvaraj later filed a complaint on July 1 with KK Nagar police in Chennai, following which Saxena was arrested.
